and just search youtube for lightning bolt if you feel the need to make it less metal but still enjoy the auspice of angry-nerd intensity, and college radio/record shop recommendations can die in the tall grass behind the shack of crap they get pushed to promote for a small duration of time.
Neurosis is a great band of artists, and ive been a fan since Through Silver in Blood/Times of Grace era. Im not really into this style of music tho. I can really appreciate it for its objective value, but this whole genere (please excuse my ignorance, but id call this “doom”) is so uncreative as a whole. Theres a few select band that stand out, but doom is so increasing in popularity that every single band sounds exactly like every other. They all have the same syncopation, same tonality, same vocals, same patternization; its hard to really get into it if you were raised in more classic generes of metal. I wouldnt say a single band/artist is bad or uncreative, but if u step back and look at all the doom from 1995-2008, its really hard to see any kind of progression of style or development. I dont even call it metal anymore. Its just a wierd abstract style all on its own. You cant compare something like Earth to Testament and tell me theyre in the same genere. The Ocean sounds absolutely nothing like Iced Earth. Midian is no where remotely close in style to Sabbat. And theyre all supposed to be metal bands? I think u doom/sludge guys need to find your own genere.
